Made in Maui
We believe that better practices lead to better flavors
Every product has the ability to make a push in the right direction. Cocktail syrups are only the first step. We intend to donate a portion of our profits to the island's conservation-based nonprofit organizations. We hope that someday a percentage of every Mai Tai sold in the State will be used to protect wildlife and promote biodiversity on Maui.
Dane Dostert
Founder of Sugarcane Dane, Dane Dostert, has found himself in seemingly disparate career moves throughout his adult life. Global conservation organizations, environmental consulting firms, sushi restaurants, Hawaiian farm-inspired bars, helicopters, machetes, cocktail competitions, and compost piles have all played a part in the creation of Sugarcane Dane LLC. Communicating the hard work being done globally in a way that is inspiring has always resonated with Dane and he sees cocktails as another venue for this conversation.
Dane’s 6 years on Maui have exposed him to a bounty of tropical potential. Inspired by the Hawaiian understanding of the natural world and the new resurgence of farms on Maui, Dane believes that all of our choices for superior products can also be choices for a healthier planet. Dane hopes that this movement continues to grow, and Sugarcane Dane LLC plans to play a part.
Dexter Hostetter
Co-founder Dexter Hostetter wants to live in a world filled with innovative businesses, cocktails that taste incredible, and humans that live in a symbiotic way with the world around them.
As a bartender with more than 10 years of experience, he’s managed multiple bar programs, taught classes on every spirit out there, and concocted his fair share of delicious libations. He is an avid conservationist, spending whatever time he can helping to malama aina, and has worked or volunteered for Kupu, Skyline Conservation Initiative, the Nature Conservancy, KIRC, and HILT.
When he’s not cooking syrup or doing conservation work you can find him playing ukulele, exploring some remote part of the island, or trying to find ways to make his friend’s businesses successful.
He and Dane have known each other for over a decade, they’ve worked at multiple bars together, and are excited to be launching into this new endeavor.
